When doors began to shut, and restrictions started to rise, many employees were forced to work from their laptops within the comforts of their own homes. Prior to the pandemic, working-from-home was seen as a luxury that many could not afford, leaving managers concerned that motivation and productivity would rapidly decline. However, this sentiment changed as time progressed and virtual working became the norm.
While virtual assistants were around before the pandemic, the rise in work-from-home arrangements opened the eyes of managers and leaders. Their business growth was no longer constrained by a lack of trust; off-shore hiring was now a strong consideration.
At Hippo Business Services, we were working with a virtual team before the pandemic hit. Today, we decided to have a chat with one of our original VAs to discuss the ins and outs of her career, and her thoughts on working as a VA.
Poebe Lilio, a virtual assistant at Hippo Business Services who works closely with our director Dan Cross, has been with us for over two years, and has enjoyed every single minute of her journey.
“It has been amazing! My career as a virtual assistant started with Hippo. I am so glad to still be here after all these years,” says Poebe.
“I have grown and learnt so much and will always be grateful to the team for taking a chance on me even though I didn’t have a lot of experience in this field.”
And it was a chance worth taking. The leap of faith taken by both Poebe and Hippo Business Services has fostered a wonderful working relationship that transcends international borders.
“I have the most supportive and understanding team and I love how I feel included and valued even though I am miles away from them,” says Poebe.
The wide array of technology available at our arsenal has allowed us to create a thorough, online training program to be completed with the use of a few digital tools which many use frequently.
“Technology has helped me a lot with my career, especially with the training and induction since Hippo Business Services and the clients I work with being so far away,” says Poebe.
“I am amazed with how technology has allowed businesses to provide employment to people not only within the country but offshore as well.”
The right pairing between client and virtual assistant allows for effortless communication, and the possibility of forming lifelong friendships as time passes.
“Dan has always been busy but I love how he finds time to catch up with us and ask us how we are doing despite his busy schedule,” says Poebe.
“I communicate with Kirsty almost everyday and we always ask how each other are doing and make sure to help in any way not only with work but with our personal lives as well.”
Through the use of technology, Poebe’s career as a virtual assistant has allowed her to grow professionally whilst maintaining a strong personal and social life.
“Being able to work at home and spend time with my family has always been the highlight of working with Hippo Business Services and their clients.”
A job chosen, a lifestyle achieved. Through working with Hippo, Poebe has been able to invest in her happiness. Now it is time for you to do the same and lead the life you dreamed of.
